Covid-19 Alert Level Change, Nationwide Lockdown
Samoa's Covid-19 Alert Level has been elevated to 3 [Red or High Risk] as announced this morning by Prime Minister Hon. Fiame Naomi Mataafa.
With the alert level change comes a nationwide lockdown from 6pm tonight Saturday 22nd January until 6pm Monday 24th January.
The precautionary measures have been activated to keep Samoa safe after additional positive Covid cases were confirmed in managed isolation this morning, taking the total number of active cases to 15.
The public is advised to take heed of the applicable measures for Alert Level 3 including the following which will be enforced during the lockdown:
- Public must remain at home.
- Schools, Bars & Restaurant to close.
- No Mass Gatherings.
- No Church Services.
- No Vehicles on Roads.
- No Inter-island travel.
- Closure of All Services (public and private) except for Essential and Emergency Services.
Government has emphasised that the measures activated are to encourage caution, vigilance and enhance awareness of an evolving situation.
Cabinet will continue to monitor the situation and make amendments where necessary.
