Garden toilets available for public use in Upolu and Savaii
Available and hygienic restrooms are available for the public and visitors alike on both the main Island of Upolu and the big Island of Savaii. In keeping up with international and health standards to avoid, Samoa celebrates every year the Garden Toilet day on the 19th of November. The Government has once again emphasised the importance of making this service more available for the public at large.
The Prime Minister earlier this year once again emphasised the importance of introducing the Garden Toilet concept in Samoa, where these sort of built suits Samoa with the inclusion of gardens to incorporate the environment, and built on family land where families can utilise for themselves and at the same time maintain for the public.
A total of 13 Garden Toilets have been completed with eight in Upolu namely:
- two at the Samoa Cultural Village in Apia,
- Togitogiga in Falealili,
- Lotofaga in Safata,
- and Saleimoa.
The four in Savaii are at:
- Vailoa in Palauli
- and Saleaula.
These public facilities are being monitored and inspected constantly by the National Beautification Committee with the Samoa Tourism Authority, working in partnership with the villages and families in the community where these facilities are set up.
The public and visitors alike are encouraged to utilise these services made available for all.
