STA ensures food handling and preparation for all

STA Food Handling Training

The Workforce Development component of the Samoa Tourism Growth Partnership (STGP) funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme (NZAP) has been in progress with the implementation of training activities for the identified prioritized skills for the tourism sector.

Food Handling and Food Preparation for Kitchen Hand Staff has been recognized as another important aspect in building workforce capacity of culinary personnel to ensure that proper care of food is implemented and is based on standards according to health regulation.

In respect of the importance of this training, the Authority invited representatives from the tourism sector to participate in this very important course this week held at the Saletoga Sands Resort & Spa.

Cooks and kitchenhand staff from restaurants and kitchen services of the various accommodation providers within the eastern side of Upolu attended.

The five key objectives achieved following the course included:

1. Workplace communications;

2. Occupational Health and Safety;

3. Safe food handling and storage;

4. Safe work practices; and

5. Environmental Impacts of Food wastage and packaging.

The Food handling and preparation training will move to other areas within the country in both Upolu and Savai’i within the upcoming weeks continuing next week: April 4-5 at SSAB Conference room for those in the Apia town area.

April 9-11 at Stevenson’s at Manase

April 12-14 at Savaiian Hotel

April 16-18 at CBS Conference Room.
